    When you unmerge, I believe Portage automatically gets rid of empty folders.

    Your /etc folder may (and probably will) still contain some system
    config files associated with a given package.

    It will require a manual search & removal.
    It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
