    i finally completed the installation succusfully, but when it boots up i just get a command line, how would i get gnome to work?

    You must emerge a few things:
    Code:
    emerge gdm gnome
    and after that's done add gdm to your "things to do at boot" with
    Code:
    rc-update add gdm default
    and now gdm should start when you boot, and from there you can pick gnome

    You should also emerge "xscreensaver" along with gnome, to be able to use screensavers. If you don't want the full gnome suite, you could emerge gnome-light and the desired parts of the gnome suite instead.
