- 10-26-2005 #22I don't think so... It's worked wherever I've tried it, so in Xfce, KDE, and Fluxbox. Perhaps check some of the Gnome settings for the sistem tray? Besides that and reinstalling Gaim, I really can't think of anything else.

Gaim is not system-critical, I figure you have other priorities...

The actual answer to your problem
Hi ya Crash,
I had the same problem and I'm no l33t
OK, you need to create a system notification area in your panel - easy
Right click top panel,
select "Add to panel"
scroll down til you find "notification area"
BINGO!!!
If you've already got the plugin running it should have appeared by now...
Check http://gaim.sourceforge.net/faq.php#q32 for further info.
good luck Crash.
TO EVERYONE ELSE:
This thread started with a simple enough question - and quickly spun into some kind of 'WHEN I WAS YOUR AGE' lecture.
Crash didn't ask for your 'expert' advise on which distro you think she/he should use - so don't give up you pearls-of-wisdom so easily
I can't believe you people waste so much time (mainly yours but also crash's), don't you have anything to do?
I only signed up to this forum to add the answer found through searching - I'm an intermediate+ Linux user that had the same problem...
Also how do you learn? If Crash got gnome running then she/he deserves some credit, you'll learn a lot from trial and error, so...
Guys if you can't say anything useful SHUT UP.
