Gentoo wont boot from CD...
Hey guys,
I just dedided to go to linux, for something new to learn, So i downloaded the Gentoo ISO x86 compatable, burned the image to CD with Alcohol120%, set my bios to boot from CD. and it doesn boot from it, just simply carrys on into Windows.
specs are here,
A64 4000+ 939
512MB ram
Nforce 3 motherboard
160GB NTFS windows drive
10GB FAT32 partition for linux....
Basic CD-Rom - CD-R/Writer
Sorry if i missed out Any valuble info, New to the whole linux thing.

Did you burn the ISO as an image or did you just burn the actual ISO to the disk? There might be an option for image burning with your burning program. If you did burn it as an image, did you get any error messages?

i Burned it as an ISO, i get an error saying "ERROR PLEASE INSTALL SYSTEM DISK" or something like that

did you do a md5sum check on the iso you downloaded to make sure that everything was downloaded correctly? If so and it was ok. Try burning again on a low speed (like 2x) and like bryansmith said burn as image. Try nero if you have windows this seems to work for everybody who uses it.

Did you check the integrity of the ISO? Did you have any complications during the download?

I didnt have any Problems downloading the Image, how do i do a MD5 check on the ISO?
I couldnt use Nero because for some Reason, it crashes my PC when i start nero smartstart...
I guess i can re-download the ISO

You can try putting the gentoo CD into your drive and doing:
Where /dev/cdrom is your cdrom devices and image.iso is the name of the iso.Code:diff /dev/cdrom image.iso

Re-downloading the iso, and ile use the program you advised (MagicISO)
And yes ime using a windows system.

A free windows prog with a very nice burn engine is imgburn

also try burning at a slower speed (I burn cd's at 24x on a drive that can do 52x).noobus in perpetuum
