    but I love so much my Debian system.

    Man, after about 24 hours gnome and xorg are finally compiled. It doesn't take long for the "base" system. but wow does it take a while for everything else!

    It does, and some compiles on insanely long...wait till you emerge openoffice, if you go that route. On your next install, once you get the base system up, put a lightweight xwm on the system and a light browser. If you emerge blackbox--the one that requires the lowest number of dependancies--and dillo, as oppossed to firefox. You can have a fully functional system, while you're emergeing gnome and firefox, and then unmerge them later if you don't like them!!!

    Oh and about newer hardware, trust me, for some reason it installs easier
