yea, i have this problem too, i cant install kde from the gentoo grp package cd.
i have set the pkgdir to my cdrom but it still ask for connection (i think because of a package named swig or something) but strange enough i am able to emerge other package in the cd.
in the end i gave up and then install gnome instead, lol.
