Aha, I didn't notice you used genkernel. Here's my Gentoo entry (it's in Kanotix): title Gentoo 2.6.16-r3 root (hd0,7) kernel /boot/kernel-genkernel-x86-2.6.16-gentoo-r3 root=/dev/ram0 ro init=/linuxrc ramdisk=8192 real_root=/dev/hda8 udev video=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr, initrd /boot/initramfs-genkernel-x86-2.6.16-gentoo-r3 ...

Aha, I didn't notice you used genkernel. Here's my Gentoo entry (it's in Kanotix):

    title Gentoo 2.6.16-r3
    root (hd0,7)
    kernel /boot/kernel-genkernel-x86-2.6.16-gentoo-r3 root=/dev/ram0 ro init=/linuxrc ramdisk=8192 real_root=/dev/hda8 udev video=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr,
    initrd /boot/initramfs-genkernel-x86-2.6.16-gentoo-r3
    boot

I also use genkernel, and I know it took some time to get the menu.lst configured the first time. And adding the ###Blablabla Yast Blabla### line won't change anything.

Just added the boot would that fix it

    Got this

    Determining root device...
The root device is unspecified or net dected
Please specify a device to boot,or "shell" for a shell...
    boot() ::

    Partitions are setup like this
    hda1-Fat16
    hda2-Windows XP
    hda3-Extended
    hda5-Swap
    hda6-SUSE 10.1
    hda7-Gentoo Linux 2006

Gentoo is mounted /fedora on SUSE so what it be hda6 instead of hda7

It should work. I've gone back through the thread and found this:

What do you mean by the kernel being located on the /fedora mount in suse? It should be on hda7, the gentoo partition. My gentoo is installed on hda8, in /boot. Maybe you should go through the documentation again and check if you did anything different? Also, check the gentoo boot-loader document.

When I had Fedora installed I then installed SUSE 10.1 and added Fedora as the mount point of Fedora Core 5 then used the partition that the Fedora was on to overwrite it with Gentoo Linux 2006 so it should still be on hda7 or it may be bause i am pointing it to /fedora on SUSE
