KDM problem
Alrighty, I'm new to gentoo so take it easy with the technical jargon. Before this I used Suse and 10.1 was eough of a trainwreck to warrant a switch to something a lot more stable. Anyway to the point. I just got KDm configured to run at boot as the default graphical login. However when I type my username and password in it always says "Login Failed"... even for root. But if I go to a console and login then issue "startx" to get into KDE everything works fine. Does anyone have any ideas? Also, I'm running KDE 3.4 off the gentoo package cd could this be part of the problem?

probably a problem with KDM. just use startx to start straight into KDE.
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?
