Basically, if you have an older Radeon, don't do it. I have a 9200 and the latest upgrade (I had ati-drivers unmasked in package.keywords) ment that the monitor would go into stand by instead of xwindows. Basically, it wasn't getting a signal at all. Just a warning to anyone else

I down graded to the latest stable drivers in portage, but no acceleration and whenever I'd logout, xorg locked up (this has been going on for a long time, but I put up with it since I had 3d acceleration working).

To make a long story short, I'm now using the open-source radeon driver and am working on getting acceleration to work with it. But I plan on buying a cheap Nvidia as soon as I get the chance. I've had enough putting up with all of this.
