Can't get past first boot screen!
Well, decided to take the Gentoo plunge, but was very disappointed when the very first step crashed. Downloaded the Live DVD 2006.1 and md5'ed it - no problem. booted from the DVD, when the screen got to the first choice (kernel) I just accepted the Gentoo default and saw the following:
Installing Gentoo ...............
Installing Gentoo .ifg (or something like that) ....................
...............
Ready
That "Ready" appears for a split second and then everything just goes black and locks up. I tried a bunch of flags but nothing made a bit of difference.
System: ASUS M2NPV-VM with AMD 64 Dual-core 3800+
1 GB Corsair Memory
Plextor DVD SATA
WD 150 GB SATA HDD
Any clues would certainy be appreciated. Thanks

The live disc seems to cause problems for many people. Try installing using the minimal install disc.

LiveCD installer is a total disaster. Try stage 3 tarball it is the best and success is guarnteed if you follow the handbook correctly. (the link is for x86) search gentoo.org for other archs. Many are covered (64bit, SPARC, etc...)
