I just downloaded and ran the live cd from gentoo.org, and in runs gnome, but I want to run kde instead. How exactly do I do this?
thanks...

As far as I know gentoo doesn't have an official livecd based on kde. The devs who work on the livecd's like gnome.
If you want to try kde in gentoo, then look into sabayon linux, as I think they have kde on their livecd, and I have heard good things about them.
If you want to install gentoo though, just use the gentoo livecd, as it will not install a desktop environment. I don't know about the installer though, as I have never used it, and I don't recommend it. I usually recommend people to do a command line installation, because you usually won't be able to get around in gentoo without knowing at least some basic commands for the command line.
