    lost interrupt



    I just finished installing gentoo and when I try to boot into it this is the error I get
    Code:
    hda: max request size: 512KiB
hda: lost interrupt
hda: lost interrupt
hda: lost interrupt
hda: lost interrupt
hda: Host Protected Area detected
-current mapacity is 488395055 sectors (250058 MB)
-native capacity is 488397168 sectors (250059 MB)
hda: lost interrupt
hda: Host Protected Area detected
    after I sit though that for a while i get this
    Code:
    Root-NFS: No NFS server available, giving up
VFS: Unable to mount root fs via NFS, trying floppy
VFS: Insert root floppy and press ENTER
    and I hit enter(no floppy) and get this

    Code:
    end_request: I/o\O error, dev fd0, sector 0
VFS: Cannot open root device "sda5 or unknown-block(2,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(2,0)
    And I have no idea whats wrong, I've tried things such as acpi=off but that just cuts the errors short and the system hangs. Any IDeas

    Have you tried just the last suggestion in your post?
    Please append a correct "root=" boot option
    You need to add a line like this to GRUB

    kernel /boot/kernel root=/dev/hda3

    error messages are reporting IDE PATA disk ( hda ) and its referring to first partition of 3rd harddisk (hd2). post the contents of /boot/grub/device.map file. how many SATA/PATA harddisks are plugged in?
