/dev/sdf???
I'm trying to install Gentoo on a friend's computer. His hard drive works fine in the Live CD as /dev/sdf, and we can fdisk and mount it and do anything we want to it. But in the Gentoo base system, during installation, we found that there is no /dev/sdf. So we can't do anything with the hard drive (which is the only hard drive on his system and thus rather VITAL...)
What should I do for Gentoo to be able to see this hard drive? We've tried every other /dev/sd* drive and all the /dev/hd* drives. It ought to be /dev/sdf, but that device file isn't there in the Gentoo base system! Help... I'm tired, it's two in the morning. Good night.

Is the disk a SATA disk? Generally SATA disks show up around sdf sdg on certain kernels. If so, did you remember to compile in SATA support?
