I'm probably going to rebuild my main computer here in a few weeks. Right now it's running Gentoo and things are going just fine but I want to put in new hard drives. Although I'm really happy with Gentoo and would use it again, are there any good variations on it out there? Also--this isn't Gentoo related--is it possible to install Linux directly onto striped SATA drives if the striping is done in the BIOS?

Vidalinux is derived from Gentoo. You might want to try that.Quote:

There is also an app called "emerde", which implents portage on other architectures, in particular slackware.
I'm interested in emerde cause i use slackware, but I heard it was really buggy. Isn't there a big name distro that's based on Gentoo?
The biggest one that's Gentoo-based that I've heard of is Vida.
