installation problem
when i try to install gentoo 2004.2 ,i choose smp (i have an intel p4 3ghx box) and i figured out that if i have plugged usb devices (my modem and scanner) the whole procedure freezes when loading modules (ehci-eci )or something like that.if i unpug all usb devices the installation moves on normally..what is the problem?hardware incompatibility?a friend of mine with the same scanner has installed gentoo normally (2.6 kernel).
thanks in advance..

It sounds like it may be an issue with SMP and USB not playing together on the 2004.2 liveCD. I know that using the 'doscsi' option can break some network cards. :?
Have you tried booting with various USB devices plugged in? It could be just one device that's causing the problems...Also, try booting without SMP support. You don't necessarily need SMP enabled when you boot the LiveCD...just when you build your own kernel (and maybe in the USE flags...not sure on that one). 8)
