Network is not starting
I had today the bad surprise the see the next error when my system boots, and is about starting the netowrk services:
No usable addresses families found
socket: no such file or directory
*eth0 does not exist
Could someone give me an advice?
I always keep saying this...please give more details...What Distro you are using..what co.'s ethernet card you are using..!!
Please give more details.!!
i use Gentoo and i have a 3com NIC.
check /etc/init.d to see if eth0 exists. then check that you have the appropriate configuration in your kernel.
i looked at these and everything seems to be fine.
have you recently update your kernel? If you did a emerge --update --deep world and you have the "symlink" USE flag then the kernel will automatically update and place the appropriate symlink to /usr/src/linux and if you didn't use genkernel again or manually update your kernel then you might not have the appropriate nic selected.
check that you have these options enabled under device drivers --> network device support --> 10 or 100 mbit
[*] 3COM cards
<*> 3c590/3c900 series (592/595/597) "Vortex/Boomerang" support (NEx x
<*> 3cr990 series "Typhoon" support (NEW)
i have selected the correct NIC in my kernel.
lspci | grep -i ethernet
it shows the two NiC's that i have in my system.
can you post the output of [as root]
