Noob Gentoo Problems

Hey

I have installed Gentoo but i am not sure if it has detected all/if any off my hardware as when i do ifconfig it does not have my eth0 bit. So how can i check to make sure everything else is OK and how do i get my ethernet card back! It worked in the gentoo install but its just not there now!

did you custom compile the kernel or use genkernel?
