Print jobs not working correctly in cups
Hello,
I have a server that was set up to print orders from our salespeople every 15 minutes. A cron job checks to see if there are any new orders in a database. The cron job queries the database and any new orders since the last cron was run are sent to cups for printing. A couple months ago we updated the server to fix some problems. Well, those problems were fixed but it broke something so that these orders no longer print. I checked a few places for clues as to what is going on. The cron jobs are running correctly according to teh /var/log/messages file. In the /var/log/cups/error_log file I see this:

The first two occur every Sunday night and I am able to go onto the printer on Monday morning, pause the print job, set the status of the new orders in the database to new, and the start the printer to get them printed. But I have to do this every Monday and it really is a pain. Not only that, but there are two other order sheets just like this one that stopped printing altogether.
The specific error I see in the print queue is:
Paused- "/usr/libexec/cups/backend/hp failed"
I looked this up and it led me to run an hp-check command, which I got this output:

I try to update hplip and it fails to install the required dependencies. I'm not sure if I'm even on the right trail here or not. I have experience with a few distros but Gentoo is very new to me. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I should check/do?
