A blank file is correct as you are about to create it - that is all I can help you with at this point Iam not much further past you on my fourth attempt to install.

But I thought I already created it. It was there and I added quite a bit to it beofre it dissappeared. Even the example file is gone.

Nevermind, I fixed it

Attempting "emerge --sync" I get a "Temporary failure in name resolution rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c88"

Did you copy over your /etc/resolv.conf before chrooting?

Maybe I am barking up the wrong tree but I think you can use emerge-webrsync

This worked for me I had the same problem

Can you please tell me how you fixed that problem?? I have the same error and cannot get it to work for the life of me. I would be really greatful if you c ould explain how you did it.
