Thanks Jonathan, I like that redirect tip, I put that in my notes.
There are a few other tips to keep in mind when working with portage.
If you have a list of packages and it keeps failing on the first package, use this one
If you want portage to keep going until it just cannot continue, use this.Code:emerge -avu --skip-first
Code:emerge -avu --keep-going
I am confused, I see and saw Mike Tbob as last to post, but I do not see his or your post Mike. I see Jonathan as previous or last post.
Solved..sorry i did not see that there was a page 1 and 2. I was only looking at page one of the posts.
I did a re emerge of net-fs/samba. I don't understand part of the (build), <--not sure if that is the correct term. I think it could be related to my problem. I need help in interpreting the following.
What is a QA notice? A soname? I will also do more web searches on this But more especially what does, or what are the implications of. this:Code:* QA Notice: Missing soname symlink(s):

for soname see here ... scroll down to Version numbering, sonames and symlinks ;)
Thanks Jonathan, that was a great link on "soname". Meanwhile here is a partial copy and paste of revdep-rebuild.
