GIMP gif animations

I was wondering if anyone know how to make gif animations with gimp.
after searching the forums i havent found any answers, except that gif was pattened, and one post said that those pattends should have been lifted by now.

So if anyone knows of a good tutorial i could look up i would appreciate it.

i looked at the webmonkeys site but their examples use a high priced 20$ program(way out of my price range) or a free one for mac.
