installing gimp 2.0
hello,
I just got Linux and want to install the new version of Gimp. The problem is, I'm used to windows so I really have no clue what to do. I couldn't find much help on the gimp site so I just looked around for a forum.
Could someone tell me where I can get all the files I need to install gimp 2.0 on my Red Hat 8.0 system?
Thanks,
Ryan

www.gimp.org is where you will find the files you need. You will probably find that you are strugleing with dependancy issues. if that becomes too much for you, install gentoo instead of redhat as it is far far better and takes care of dependancy issues seamlessly.
Proud to be a GNU/Gentoo Linux user!

And the Gentoo promotion goes on =)
(but I shouldn't argue, I do a fair bit of that as well!)
here's my tip: if you are using redhat, download the latest .rpm from www.gimp.org. if that won't install, or you can't start gimp up,
you will probably get a message about missing dependencies some way or another.
Make a note of which these dependencies are,
then google around until you find an rpm for them
Install them, try gimp again, and if everything fails,
post back here (preferably with a detailed description of what went wrong,
+ any error messages)
Good luck
