What goes around comes around. I am giving my Frankenstein IBM M41 P4,DVDROM/CDRW, 1.5ghz ram 100gig IDE hardrive, Dell 21" CRT, Emachines keyboard, 2 button ball mouse to a 70+year old woman who is a buddy of my wife. Spent last couple of days cleaning itup, installing Windows XP sp3 with VLC, IE8, Opera,SuperAntiSpyware, Avast AV, Open Office, Foxit PDF Reader, Malwarebytes, Iobit smart defrag, 100 Windows XP kb patches, Windows Media Player 11, CCleaner, Quicktime player, Silverlight, Shockwave Flash, Java, cuz the wife wants to help a lady out who has no computer or computer knowledge. She is a doglover lady. Restore Points are done. Defrag done. She gets it this thursday.

Delivered and setup her tower today. Had to change out 110v receptacle because previous tenants buggered the plug. Gave her a computer desk also since this is being setup in her bedroom. She was very apprehensive and afeared of breaking it by doing anything wrong. I was touched by her naiveté and innocence when it came to computers. The last time she touched a keyboard was a mechanical 1960's typewriter. I spent the day with her just showing her how to turn the unit on and off and smiled when she reacted to words like "this is the mouse". It was like teaching a child. I had fun though. My wife is going to take over on the teaching front. I wanted to install Puppy Linux because She is a doglover lady on that unit as a dual boot. The reason I did not was because my wife would have been lost trying to run Puppy, (as she told me), so that is why I opted for Windows XP only.

I left the lady in stitches when I told her to look at the computer as a flashlight and she is a caveman who is being given one by a man from the future. The first time he/caveman turns it on and the light shows the caveman jumps/throws flashlight and is afeared of it. just like the lady when she jumped back/keyboard and mouse went flying when she hit the power button on the IBM and it makes a breathing sound/fan coming on. It scared her. Told her also not to be scared of breaking anything. I built it. I can fix it. It is funny what guys like us take for granted and brought me back down to earth a bit. Maybe later I after some time passes, and she gets more comfortable with the unit, I will bring a Puppy CD and spend another whole day with her.

    That's awesome, Roky!
And I love the metaphor about the flashlight and the caveman. Well played! Kinda crazy though... a 1960's typewriter, huh? And willing to give it a go after all this time? I think that's good for her, too. Keep up with her, make sure that she doesn't get freaked out by anything

Since I have given up the other CRT monitor to my wifes buddy . I have been on the look out for a LCD Monitor (but being a cheap ass biker this is being difficult).

Plan is to buy a LCD 22" or so. Put it on the Gamer High Horse-Power Asus Shuttle Box i have. Use the crt off of it to take advantage of the Emachine Desktop I salvaged. Waiting for the price to drop though on LCD. I just want to pay $89.00 for a new 22 incher (free shipping also),- (it can happen LOL). Just gotta be patient.
It's not like I don't have enough crap to play with.

No luck so far. So change of plan. Going to go with a ram upgrade on the Emachine and bump it to 2 gig instead from 512MB. $24.00 investment.

Bought/pulled the trigger on the ram on Fleabay from Hong Kong dealer. 2 gig came out to $16.40 with free shipping. Crosses fingers that it'll work out for the best.

2 X 1GB PC4200 DDR2 533 533MHz PC-2 DESKTOP RAM MEM is what the Emachine Desktop takes from my researching. That is the max it will take.
