Yeah, I got experiences with VMware, but do you have an idea how to emulate the Users who should connect to the server ?

With VMware, no idea.
With innotek Virtual Box.. I know..
You just set it up.
And then make a script that Targets the box.
Use hping and a webcrawler from another box. And Bash your box till it freezes.
Well, the reason why I dont think this runs on VMware. is that VMware always takes 100%CPU and course of that the hping/crawler cant use enough CPU to be useful.

Ok, another opinion I thought about is renting a system from a friend or so, just for the testing to see how much power is required.

Well if you can Borrow a system thats great.
you just Crash-test it then with scrapy and hping and webcrawler and in the meanwhile try to use it your self and see how fast it works..
