    try this...

    in your xorg.conf, change the line (in the ATI device section)
    Option "Capabilities" "0x00000800"

    to read:
    Option "Capabilities" "0x00000000"

    this is the equivalent of saying 'no' to 'do you want to sync buffer swaps to screen refreshes' in fglrxconfig (or something like that.. can't remember the exact question) when sync is on, your framerate is limited by your refresh rate. with sync off, the card races as fast as it can, but you can get visual artifacts like tearing.

    anyway, this should get you a few thousand fps on glgears. good luck

    hey guys while your still on the same topic with ati drivers, do i use the 4.3.0 ati driver for my radeon9600xt with my FC2 as well?

    12. rename /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 to xorg.conf (backup your xorg.conf first)
    13. reboot or restart x server
    14. open terminal
    15. glxinfo it should say near the top direct rendering YES. (which means hardware opengl working)
    I tryed that, but when I run "fglrxconfig" I get command not found..

    someone know why?
