Random Nvidia freezes in a AMD 64 bit!
Hey guys, after convincing my brother to start using Linux and try to get his video editing work done in Linux , i'm having this problem and not able to solve it .
Random freezes with nvidia card on Ubuntu 7.10 as well as OpenSuSE 10.3 , if i drop down to ubuntu 7.04 the problem disappears but no sound .
if i use vesa there is no problem , so it's coming from the driver .
Other guys reported this problem to the Ubuntu bug list and OpenSuSE , but still no solution or i didn't find one .
So any Help please .Linux is not only an operating system, it's a philosophy.

Have you tried to use nVidia's driver from their website?

I'm afraid yes, the latest nvidia driver seems to be buggy or .......
Probably dropping down to an old version of nvidia will help , i'm going to give it a try and post here .Linux is not only an operating system, it's a philosophy.

That was going to be my next suggestion. I remember having to step back once because of an issue I was having. But today I'm running the latest.

Dropping down to the previous version of Nvidia 96.43.01 seems to work fine . enabling compiz effect with makes my brother forgetting about the freeze
.
but this has to be fixed.
