I have been using Mandrake 9.2 download edition off and on for a few months. I have had it installed on a server for over a solid month now. The sound has worked fine for all of these times. However, now when i boot, when the alsactl module loads to restore mixer settings, it hangs. I have left the machine on over night on this sequence--to no avail. Currently I have gone through the interactive startup, without loading the modules, and then removed them from the startup sequence. The print server is now loaded, which was my main concern, but now I would be able to get the sound to work as a bonus. I am fairly new to linux and am only self taught on its features. The driver for the soundcard is ALI5451. The ALSA version is 0.9.6.
