There does not seem to be any naming convention in motherboards and in fact, I cannot discern any motherboard supplier that does. Why has there never been a standard for naming motherboards?
For motherboards, there are at least 3 criteria I can think of which make the selection process much easier if such information is included in the identification number:
- socket
- speed
- RAM capacity

To make matters even more difficult, the online stores don't have this information either in their web pages. Most of the time one can filter by brand and then sort by price, which still leaves about 20 to 40 options to choose from in an average case. Any views?
