Neomagic256AV + Alsa
Hiya all,
Ive just finished installing Debian 3.0.2 on my Dell Latitude LS, upgraded everything to the newest releases etc etc.
Then I tried to get my sound card working.
I recompiled my kernel ( 2.4.18 ) and made sure the sound module was installed.
Rebooted.
I downloaded Alsa-1.0.5a and config/make/installed it.
I then did 'modprobe snd-nm256' as per the instructions on the Alsa site and the computer hung.
Rebooted, fixed up the FS.
Rebooted again and now the computer just hangs when it tries to Init the sound.
----
Restoring ALSA mixer settings ... PCI: Found IRQ 10 for device 01:00.1
nm256: found card signature in video RAM: 0x27ec00
nm256: Mapping port 1 from 0x2709a0 - 0x27ec00
----
It stalls here, nothing responds and I have to reboot/clean FS again.
Anyone know of a fix/or even what is going wrong here?
Im totally stumped Ive looked everywhere.
Dan.

A friend suggested trying the Kernel OSS modules, exactly the same problem with them though.
It loads the driver then hangs.
