problem with the volume

my mic doesn'work when trying to use skype but at the same time is on and is working on maximum. I can listening to the radio, so can someone help please........

couple things to try:

I'm going to base this off of Ubuntu, if you are using something else you'll have to either post again so I can alter the instructions slightly or just do the appropriate adjustments yourself:

open terminal
sudo apt-get install alsamixergui
go to applications, sound & video, alsamixergui

check to make sure that the mic is up and not muted

then open skype
open the options
sound devices
look at "sound in" and see what options there are, do a test call with each of them and see which one functions right (some might spit out errors, if it does just move on to the next one, I have 10 options for sound in and only one of them works right (I know, not sure why they have so many options but that's how it goes)
