how to switch from amd to intel without reinstalling?
Hi everyone,
I am having a hardware problem with my samba server. It is on an Tyan AMD motherboard, (Tyan S2469), and it appears the board has gone bad. Is it possible to transfer the drives onto my Tyan S2735 mother board without a complete reinstall? I really need to save the data on the system.
Thanks
zog

You may have luck just plugging the drives in if the type of hardware isn't too different, i.e. drive controllers are either the same or the drivers are available on your system. Make sure to install the drives in the same addresses though for the sake of ease - master, slave etc. Some modern distros rely on blkid rather than addresses like sda,sdb so you may be lucky.
Failing that, have a livecd to hand and either an external drive or lots of DVDs and a burner. If nothing else you should be able to mount the drives and recover the data before the reinstall.
