    Hello everyone, I'm new to linux and therefore require help

    I have an external dvd writer but require a drive for linux. Can anyone help. Make and model of dvd - matshita dvd-ram uj-850s dvd/cd-rom.

    Welcome to the forums!

    Most hardware works with Linux these days without having to install additional drivers. Can you provide more details as to why you think you need a driver, or are you asking what drives work with Linux?

    External dvd drive

    I have plugged in the external dvd but my computer does not pick it up/register it and I am therefore unable to use it to read or write. However the dvd drive will power up and read the driver disc supplied but will not install.

    I have a Liteon external DVDRW Drive that all my Linux Distros mount up just fine. You haven't mentioned what Distro you are using and what Kernel.

    Open a Terminal and type and then hit enter

    Code:
    cat /etc/issue
    and then type in and hit enter

    uname -r
