    Question DVD Read-writer:HDIO_GETGEO failed : Inappropriate ioctl for device

    My DVD writer suddenly stopped working couple of days. (before i could buy a new one)
    is it possible to fix this issue?

    These are my messages :

    #hdparam -d1 /dev/cdrom
    HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
    HDIO_GET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device

    #hdparam /dev/cdrom

    IO_support = 0 (Default)
    readonly = 0 (off)
    readahead = 256 (on)
    HDIO_GETGEO failed : Inappropriate ioctl for device
    Any idea what went wrong?

    It would appear that a system call for the i/o to the kernel has failed. Other than that I don't know enough to tell you how to fix it.
