Acer Aspire Timeline wimax
I'm trying to install wimax on my Acer Aspire Timeline 4810T notebook running Ubuntu 9.10 with 2.6.31-generic kernel. The problem is I'm not sure if my notebook has wimax supporting network controller.
lspci returns
Intel 5100 doesn't support wimax. Aren't there any possibility that I still have wimax supporting hardware, but it is not detected? How do I make sure whether I have such hardware?Code:03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5100

That is a WiFi controller, not a WiMAX controller.
Here is what acer aspire timeline offers:
• WLAN: Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 5100 (dual-band quad-mode 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N) Wi-Fi CERTIFIED® network connection, featuring MIMO technology, supporting Acer SignalUp™ with Nplify™ wireless technology or
- Wi-Fi®/WiMAX™* Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 5150 Wi-Fi®/WiMAX™ dual-mode module, supporting Acer SignalUp™ with Nplify™ wireless technology * depending on network availability
If you can't find any Intel 5150 controller then you don't have WiMAX, also update your lscpi by running: update-picids
