Can't start PC

Hi folks,

AMD single core CPU
Asus mobo A8N-VM
RAM 512x2 M
Ubuntu 9.04


When I turned on the PC in the morning. It failed to boot. Pressing [Del] had no function. The [Num Lock],[Cape Lock] and [Scroll Lock] flashed once. Please advise where shall I check.

Does you hear any beep sound at starup? Does it allow to enter in BIOS settings?
First of all, try any other Monitor.

I don't think the monitor having problem. The tab [No signal] was moving around on the screen.

Sounds like a MB/CPU issue. Might try replacing them one at a time (good excuse to upgrade) and see if it comes back to life.

Does it sound like it's humming to life? Making all the usual sounds but not flickering info on the screen?

Hi,

I have a spare PSU, complete new. Just replaced the PSU. Still it didn't boot with long beep sound (Ram stick not plugin). Leaving behind is the CPU and Mobo. I have no way to check them.

This is PC is a standby unit built sometimes. I have a running Athlon duel core working PC with Asus M2N-E mobo. I have no idea whether I can check the CPU there. If YES whether a damaged single core Athlon CPU will cause risk to the running mobo?

You're right it is time to put this PC to retire permanently. I already have a list of component prepared for sometimes as follow;

AMD PHENOM II X4 955
ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 DDR3 AMD 790GX ATX AMD Motherboard (video onboard)
OCZ OCZ3P1333LV4GK DDR3 1333 4G Kit (2Gx2) CL7 2 sets (8G RAM)

The price of CPU and mobo continue to drop but that of the RAM goes up.

I need a new box for server only. Video card is NOT important to me. I also can remove the Video card to the new box from the broken PC which is not too old, about 1~2 years. to the new box in case of need.
