Sucks having to use such an old video card but the motherboards PCI Express port broke and that's the only card I have at the moment.

Don't know about the S3 video card, but I have a 3700+ that works great with Ubuntu 10,04. Hope that helps.

Well, X doesn't even load in Ubuntu and Fedora when I tried them. Kubuntu and Slackware worked, but KDE runs too slow with the video card.
Kubuntu also had some graphical artifacts if run at 1024x768.

If Slackware worked, you could try it again but use a lightweight window manager rather than KDE or Gnome. Another option might be Zenwalk, a lighterweight distro that is based on Slackware.

I might try that in a moment.

I got XCFE working now, much faster. To fix the graphics corruption, I changed to 16-bit colour.
Just one question though, how do I connect to a Windows workgroup on LAN?
I've been trying Gigolo with Samba but haven't got it to work.
