GRUB causes DVD-R to stop functioning
Hey guys, I posted a similar question related to Ubuntu Linux, but this has since happened with ANOTHER distro that I tried (Fedora Core 2):
After I installed Ubuntu, and GRUB set up my MBR, my DVD-R drive just stopped working... no lights, no eject, no detection by Windows or Linux, only after GRUB fires up (before/during POST it works OK). So I got rid of Ubuntu and installed Fedora Core 2, however, now my DVD-R does the same thing, but this time, only in Windows (as far as I can tell it is detected and works fine in Fedora). This leads me to this that it is definately a problem with the arguments that GRUB gives at bootup. I have both IDE channels filled with a master and a slave, in this configuration: hda = harddrive w/windows, hdb = ntfs harddrve, hdc = DVD-R drive, hdd = harddrive w/linux installed. Can anyone shed some light on what exactly I've missed in the configuration? Thanks a ton.

please post your "/boot/grub/grub.conf" file here.

Use Suse 10.1 and occasionally play with Kubuntu
Also have Windows 98SE and BeOS
