Green/Purple Flashing on Startup
After I select Ubuntu on GRUB, my screen will briefly flash green or some sort of green/purple pattern, before the Ubuntu loading screen comes up. I have it installed on a partition.
Is this normal?

Yes. It varies depending upon the hardware (video). What you are seeing (I think) is the initialization of the video hardware for full graphics mode. Ubuntu doesn't seem to mask this out during the startup process. My experience is similar (but different) on my laptop. As long as the system stabilizes PDQ, you shouldn't worry about it.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
