alsamixer doesn't change the real sound volume of my USB sound card (though the dials move okay)

olexandr, did U solve the problem? Notice when you run: cat /proc/asound/cards
Do the devices switch numbers after booting at different times? Also, did U try alsamixer -c # ? Where # is one of those numbers.
I should not be writing this as I HATE ALSA, nevertheless, did U run alsaconf and alsactl store?
