My mouse left click is not working

Hi, I'm new in this place, but I think it's the right place to post my problem.

I install linux mint in my laptop (sony vaio vgn-cs11s) and first everythink was correct, but some times when I turn on the laptop, the left click is not working, but all the rest it is, I mean the right click and the srcoll etc.

So I dicide to unistall linux mint, and use ubuntu 11.04, but the problem is still there.

I don't know what to do, I try to finde some solutions but I didn't.

The rare thing is that one year before is was using ubuntu and I didn't have any problem.

I think we need some more information here. What do you mean 'left click'? Is this on a physical mouse or on the touchpad, or touchpad button?

Is this an old PC and your mouse is just worn out? What happens with another mouse?

Is it just that tap-to-click isn't working - if that's the case you'll probably have to turn it on in the preferences for you mouse. This could also be the problem if behaviour is different at the log-in screen and after you've logged in.

It happen to touchpad, external mouse, in any mouse device that I connect, it happen normally in the log-in panel, but it still not working after log-in, and sometimes it happen when you are working.

Is not and old pc, is quite new (1,5 years).

And the problem is that tap click not working, and any kind of left click.

It's unusual that left-clicking fails for all devices. Are there any adjustments you can make in your mouse or touchpad configuration boxes? The one that gives me the most grief in Gnome 3 is the one that disables the mouse while typing, it seems to keep it disabled for a bit too long after you finish with the keyboard.

The other one that annoys me is tap to click which can be turned on an off. These things together might be conspiring to make it look like you have mouse click problems.

You could also try looking in the X log to see if anything is being reported as failed. You need admin privileges to read it, but take a look down the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see if there are any warnings or errors generated about the touchpad or mouse.
