webcam mic
i have an early dell p4 running ubuntu 10.04. my daughter and family have moved out of the country so i have set up skype. i have tried to set up a headset via the usb port with no luck. it does work when plugged into the sound card jacks. i just received a web cam with built in mic that is usb only. the camera works but like the headset no audio..is there a fix for this condition?

see what MIXER SW you have installed
just did skype install again on 2 laptops and hat to go through problemsolving
I use
gamix
there you see different options to switch microphone ON or OFF or to select which microphone is actually in use
do offline testing using sound-recorder
gnome-sound-recorder 2.32.0
on my KDE 4
for testing of what lines are used and quality before doing the actual skype test
that should solve most problemsAll about God and Love Spiritual Treasures - Spiritual Treasures Download - Wallpapers tropical scenery - Blog: eCards Love Flowers

I use a bluetooth headset to skype on Linux. I do have to switch the sound input (and optionally the output) device to the headset with the audio tool, but that takes but a second and works very well. Doing that, I can also walk around the room, not being directly tethered to the computer. I use it with both my workstation (Scientific Linux / RHEL 6) and laptop (Ubuntu).
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
