    RAID 5 Question

    Hi,

    Just last night I built a new raid 5 array using Disk Utility (comes with a few distributions) which I think just uses mdadm. The array built fine and came up as degraded, then spent all night fixing itself. Then it spent all day having files copied to it. Now, as far as I know, nothing is using the disk, but as long as its mounted I see the hard drive leds flashing. Is this normal for an mdadm raid 5 array?

    What does Disk Utility show as the status of the drive. I use DU/mdadm to build arrays (have 3 online) and don't see this.
    Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
