    Hard disk gets slow from time to time


    Hello. I have the following issue. On my laptop (Sony vaio VPCF11M1R) hard disk slows down dramatically from time to time (Timing cached reads: 2 MB in 2.08 seconds = 982.80 kB/sec). I suspect this is related to battery charging level. It looks like there is a system process that switches HDD to such mode. What can be done about it? Please, help. My system is ubuntu version 12.04. Thank you.

    You can use smartmontools to check your Hard disk status.
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install smartmontools
    To check Hard disk, execute this in Terminal :

    sudo smartctl -a /dev/sda
    Or

    Use smartd to check Hard disk at regular intervals.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
