NEED HELP PLEASE COBIND LINUX Desktop 0.2 beta ...no sound

I have IBM CS 4232/36/37/38 part number sound card.

Sandra in win98 displayed the sound card as follows:

it is a "Turtle beach V 2.0 16bit 44.1 Khz stereo

Product ID: 1/132"

How do I get the soung to work.When I tried the sound I received an
error:
unable to open audio device '/dev/mixer'. Please check that you have
permissions to open '/dev/mixer/'and that you have sound support in your kernel. I installed Cobind because it was the only distro I could install. I need all the help I can get , No manual available.

How do I do all that? How do I get the sound to work? Thank You..
