Trying to quicly toggle between dual and single monitors

I have a docking station connected to 2 monitors. When I plug my laptop into my docking station (with Windows) it toggles my display settings correctly so that the resolution and setup changes correctly. No log out or rebooting required. I'd like to get the same setup with Linux. I'd like to use Linux full time but this has become a major hiccup. Has anyone figured out a good way to handle this?

What display adapter does your laptop have?
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
