Best Linux build for Athlon thunderbird 900?

    Hi all,

I am new to linux and have decided to try it on an old PC.

The system I intend to try it on, is an athlon thunderbird, 900mhz, with 768mb RAM. After reading the system requirements for Linux mint, it falls between minimum specs, and just below recommended specs (the recommended specs I got where 1ghz, 1gb ram).

Has anyone used linux mint on a dated system like this? I want something that will have a capable OS for internet/office use, but have retain reasonably snappy response times.

How would it fare compared to WinXP? I ask, cos that is what its currently running.

Go to distrowatch.com, and use their search function for beginner and old computers. You will be given a list of distro's which you can check for recommended specs. Start with the highest rated one that meets your specs, and work your way down the list until you find the right one for you.
