Can't get Sound Blaster Live card to work

I've compiled and installed the Alsa driver for my SB Live sound card but
when I try to insert it into the kernel with "modprobe snd-emu10k1", I got
    the following message:

    /lib/modules/2.4.21-27.0.1.EL/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
    /lib/modules/2.4.21-27.0.1.EL/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.21-27.0.1.EL/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o failed
    /lib/modules/2.4.21-27.0.1.EL/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o: insmod snd-emu10k1 failed

My PC has one onboard sound card(AC 97) and one PCI sound card(SB Live), the
onboard one works but the PCI one doesn't. Any help or advice will be very
much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

That will use the OSS driver if available. But alsa should work also, at least on my machine it does. But what I find rather odd in your config information is the lack of hardware details of your SBLive card. Here's mine : cat /proc/pci
    Code:
      Bus 0, device 13, function 0:
Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 4).
          IRQ 11.
          Master Capable. Latency=32. Min Gnt=2.Max Lat=20.
          I/O at 0xcc00 [0xcc1f].
      Bus 0, device 13, function 1:
Input device controller: Creative Labs SB Live! MIDI/Game Port (rev 1).
          Master Capable. Latency=32.
          I/O at 0xd000 [0xd007].
      Bus 0, device 15, function 0:
    Or using lspci -v :
    Code:
00:0d.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 04)
Subsystem: Creative Labs CT4850 SBLive! Value
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 11
            I/O ports at cc00 [size=32]
Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 1

00:0d.1 Input device controller: Creative Labs SB Live! MIDI/Game Port (rev 01)
            Subsystem: Creative Labs Gameport Joystick
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32
            I/O ports at d000 [size=8]
Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 1
This is an older SBLive card. Check the alsa site to check if the snd-emu10k1 is the correct driver to use for your specific card.

And if snd-emu10k1 is the right driver, then you may want to try, add to the /etc/modules file - snd-emu10k1 (as an line).
Research, research, research before you walk the plank.

Got the driver installed, but still no sound

Thank you for all the help! I figured out it was the wrong
driver to begin with and I managed to compile and insert
the correct driver in successfully, but I still get no
    sound!

Alsa states that all audio is muted by default and I have
to use a mixer program to turn it back on; but when I try
    it, it still doesn't work.

Should Alsa provide some sort of support, there doesn't
seem much on their site or they careless about it.

Again my thanks for all the people who helped.

    Code:
    alsamixer
adjust controls to your need, exit with the Esc key
    Code:
    alsactl store
and if needed add a line to your /etc/rc.d/rc.local:
    Code:
    /path/to/alsactl restore
If that doesn't help try a newer alsadriver. You will have to compile those I assume.
