I installed Ubuntu linux 5.04 on my desktop, and I have no sound. I have an on-board sound card and also a SounBlaster Live 5.1.

Do you use OSS or ALSA?
Is sound volume up?

Initially I was using OSS (I think), which is used by default. I tried the suggestion in the link above, which made me use ALSA. But still no sound in both soundcards. I am using GNOME. I did toy around with alsamixer, but... no sound still. Hints are extremely welcome.

And does the soft you are trying to use is having alsa-support?
