New PS/2 Optical mouse doesn't work on Ubuntu
I got my new GE HO97986 Rev.2 PS/2 Optical Mouse with Scrollwheel(yes, I know GE's a really famously reliable mouse-maker...)today at Home Depot(a great electronics seller...). It says on the box that it is compatible with all Wndz versions since 98. No Mac support. Anyway, I plugged it into my PS/2 port. The light comes on, and I can click away, but when I start moving the mouse, the light brightens up breifly and then the light turns off. It doesn't turn back on unless you unplug and replug the mouse in. I have Ubuntu. Is it a lack-of-driver issue, a mobo issue, or is it the mouse?
Thank you!

Update: If I plug it in pre-boot, when I restart the llight works fine with me moving the mouse around until linux goes into hardware detection. Same with SuSE.
