I want to buy a Socket 754 motherboard: Asus K8V-X or Asus K8N.
Which chipset is better supported on Linux:
VIA K8T800 or nForce3 250 ?...

I've had no trouble with my VIA K8T800. I have not tried the Nforce4 so I can't say for that one.

Nvidia supplies linux drivers themselves. Most distros will auto-detect it though, so you shouldn't have to manually install anything.
- 10-11-2005 #5I would highly recommend using whatever drivers come with your distribution of Linux, because I've not had good experiences with Nvidia's onboard chipset drivers. Their display drivers are some of the best... which makes me wonder why their nforce drivers give me so much grief. At any rate, be forewarned.
